Neighborhood Crime Mapping and Statistics Every week, The Providence Plan works with the Providence Police Department to develop data for the Department's Tuesday morning CompStat meeting. ProvPlan staff extract data and analyze crime across multiple time periods and geographies. Although the police focus on their nine districts, mapping all of the crime allows us to aggregate it to neighborhoods as well. To visualize how crime locations change over time, we produced four animated maps that track hotspots from 2002-2005. Although many of the same spots persist year after year, it is interesting to see how new ones appear and recede. Of even greater to neighborhood residents, however, are statistical summaries over time.
