YouthBuild Gives City Residents Work Skills

Ten YouthBuild participants are now working on Omsted Commons through a 12-week pilot program – starting in Providence – that allows YouthBuild participants to work on The Community Builders’ affordable homes.

Providence Youths Learn Job Skills Renovating Apartments

Ten graduates of the YouthBuild Providence program are at work this summer, renovating 24 apartments in two buildings at the Olmsted Gardens affordable-housing complex - a $200,000 renovation project that is a partnership between YouthBuild and The Community Builders, a nonprofit developer.

YouthBuild Providence Receives $1.1M Grant from US Department of Labor

In order to better prepare young Rhode Islanders for the jobs of tomorrow, the RI congressional delegation today announced $1.1 million in federal funds for YouthBuild Providence.  The program, which is a part of the Providence Plan, provides vocational training to at risk youth, helping to better prepare them for jobs in the construction industry and emerging clean energy economy.

Press Advisory

Today, New Roots Providence, a program of The Providence Plan, announced its 2011 Strengthening Community Fund grants to 27 Rhode Island nonprofit or faith community groups in a Press Conference.  Joining New Roots were members of Rhode Island’s Congressional Delegation – Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressman James Langevin – as well as representatives from New Roots’ grantee organizations.

The Providence Plan Releases Census 2010 Information and Maps

Providence, Rhode Island – The Providence Plan has posted the first round of Providence neighborhood-
level and city ward maps for the 2010 Census.  The interactive maps are available at www.provplan.org.

“We are pleased to be able to provide detailed information about Providence’s 25 neighborhoods and the City’s 15 wards,” said Patrick McGuigan, The Providence Plan’s Executive Director.  “The online neighborhood profiles that we launched back in 2001 have made a tremendous impact in framing policy decisions over the past decade, and we look forward to extending our partnership with the City in the coming years to promote more data-driven decision making.”

38 Non-profit Organizations to Benefit from New Roots Grants

New Roots Providence, a local program that supports faith-based and community organizations, announced it is providing $450,000 in grants to 38 organizations statewide.

Grantees include the Genesis Center, Groundwork Providence, the Riverzedge Arts Project, and Social Venture Partners RI, among others. Each organization is receiving an award between $2,000 and $15,000.
