| Our Projects > Information for Change
Information is at the foundation of ProvPlan's efforts to revitalize Providence and its neighborhoods. ProvPlan believes that the ability to access and use good information, particularly at a neighborhood level, gives people the knowledge and power to make decisions that lead to positive change. Through our Information for Change agenda, we are working to improve the scope, quality, accessibility, and usability of information available to the Providence community.
ProvPlan has made a commitment to serve as an "information intermediary." We acquire and convert raw data into useable information and make the information available in a manner that respects confidentiality. Residents and community-based organizations are then able to access this information and use it as a tool for long-term development and social change.
ProvPlan strives to provide information that is unbiased, understandable, grounded in genuine community needs, and accessible to residents, community-based organizations, government, and other entities.
We are committed to working with data at the neighborhood level and smaller levels of geography. This level of analysis is often the most meaningful and useful for residents and community-based organizations, as it enables them to relate data to places they know well. Analysis at this level highlights the significant differences that often exist from one place to another, differences that would not be noticed if analysis were conducted only at a City or State level. ProvPlan has invested in staff, hardware, and software that enable us to take advantage of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to map, analyze, and communicate data at a variety of geographic levels, from individual properties, to neighborhoods, to the entire city.
